My Students

This school year will be my 18th year of teaching and 5th year teaching in a fifth grade inclusion setting. I have been fortunate to have a co-teacher whom I work extremely well with, not everyone can say this. Our students benefit greatly through this collaborative relationship. In an inclusion classroom we are tasked with many challenges including students with behavioral and home issues. Year after year one of our biggest challenge is having students who are barely reading at first grade and other students reading beyond fifth, but we are expected to get all students to be meeting grade level proficiency by the end of the year.

It is our job to ensure that every student in our classroom feels accepted and part of our classroom family.

We encourage them to persevere and push them to meet the challenges that would normally serve as a block to them, no matter what level they are at. We pride ourselves in providing the necessary tools and differentiation that each student needs.

This year we would like to encourage our students to be more independent, complex thinkers who are able to make decisions that will be beneficial to them.

My Project

After a year and a half of distance learning and staring at a computer screen, I would like to be able to give my students a place in our classroom to sit, relax, and enjoy a good book or magazine.

A nice cozy carpet will help bring our classroom library to life and allow students the space to escape reality for a bit.

When they've returned to reality, we will explore current events using our magazine subscriptions and engage in lively discussions about various topics. I am excited to have my students back in the classroom.
