Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My room is not only an office but a safe space for students to open up about their feelings, emotions, and trauma. It is important that the room feel inviting, safe, and special. Students in this age demographic typically have a hard time expressing or processing their emotions to adults. I have found that through interactive games, arts and crafts, or a calm space students will open up and express their emotions.

To often in our society today, we hear of the effect of poor social skills but never highlight how to develop these skills.

As apart of my job, I fill in where academic learning leaves out: how to deal with social pressure, practicing empathy, and kindness, learning how to deal with big emotions, how not to sweat the small stuff.

I believe that every student should have access to social-emotional learning. This is why the items I wished for are directly related to the calming corner and social-emotional learning. The futon will be a great addition to m office. I have selected journals, Play-Doh, beads, games, and other similar products and materials as well.
