Help me give my students a carpet, Calm Strips, weighted lap pads, and other calming items for their calming corner. They need a place to identify their feelings and learn how to self-regulate their emotions.
Please help with building our calming corner. My Life Skills classroom is looking to build a better calming corner. The stress of COVID-19 has weighed heavily on our students with special needs. Building a calming corner will aid students in self-regulating feelings and calming down after having a stressful experience. The ability to self-regulate is key to keeping a sound mind and healthy body. Students, in today's world, have so many feelings and emotions that they don't know how to handle them. Stress builds up and it manifests into pains in the stomach, tightness in the chest, and trouble breathing. My students come from low-income and split families so school may be the only place where they can calm their minds and bodies. Help me build a great Calming Corner! Students will self-regulate their feelings with aromatherapy, calming strips, and a comfortable rug to chill out. Students will be able to identify their feelings through charts and posters, learn about deep breathing and mindfulness, and relax with aromatherapy. The goal for my students is to learn how to self-regulate their feelings so that they lessen outbursts and meltdowns. The range of ABILITIES my students have is medical impairment, Autism, Down Syndrome, Speech and Language Impairments, and Intellectual Disabilities.
