Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These materials will be used in the counseling room calming corner included in the picture. Students need a safe space to engage in preferred activities when they are having a difficult day. These materials will help them learn how to self regulate after negative peer interactions or difficult academic tasks while at school. Having these activities will also facilitate counselor and student interactions.

Students are more engaged and willing to interact with the counseling provider when they are able to work on a preferred activity.

The social emotional books will also help help teach students social emotional skills through story time. Materials will be used to model and reinforce good coping strategies for students. With repetition, the coping skills learned will transfer outside of the counseling room and will be used by the student independently while at school or while out in the community.
