Help me give my students a safe space in the classroom where they can go to take a break and regulate their emotions when they are upset, angry, or having difficulty focusing on work.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students would greatly benefit from having a safe and calming classroom environment.
In the past year, many of my students have experienced situations in which they act out because they do not know what to do with what they are feeling.
This is why they need a calming area where they can manage their reactions to big emotions. It can be difficult for students to pay attention and learn when they feel angry or upset. Having sensory toys and books about mindfulness will teach them to self-regulate. The wiggle chairs will allow for flexible seating, help them focus and improve their ability to learn.
