Calming Area

Help me give my students a calming area in our special needs classroom to support self-regulation, soothe sensory overload, and ease anxiety. We need a carpet, various comfortable chairs, some pillows, and a few games/puzzles.

My Project

All my students need intensive academic and emotional support. They work extremely hard to overcome cognitive challenges and develop their academic skills. We enjoy celebrating progress and goal achievement. It builds community and helps students stay motivated to participate, learn and succeed!

Some of my students often find self-regulation challenging.

This leads to inappropriate behavior that interferes with learning. My entire class will benefit greatly from a safe and comfortable space inside the classroom to practice coping skills and destress. I selected a rug and comfortable seating to create a designated calming area so students will have the opportunity to retreat to a physically soothing and emotionally safe space whenever they become overwhelmed.
