Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my beautifully diverse and inclusive classroom, many young students are still learning to identify and manage their emotions, control their impulses, and make good choices. I would love to provide them a special space with various items to engage their senses, de-escalate, and get centered. In my calming corner, students could watch jellyfish float, touch interesting textures, listen to ambient sounds, or cancel all sounds completely. A hammock chair could provide a cradling effect to help students feel safe and loved. They could also read Social-Emotional books that help them to understand what they are feeling and what they can do to feel better.

Sometimes, students need just a few short mindful minutes to breathe and refocus so they can calmly return to work and complete tasks.

My students with anxiety, ASD or ADHD could benefit greatly with a designated space and social-emotional learning tools at their disposal to relax and regain control. When children learn to better control their minds and their bodies, they can be more productive and successful both in school and at home.
