Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students, similarly to hearing students of that age, often struggle with appropriate expression of their emotions. They would benefit from having a calming, cool down, reflection area. The Calming Area would be a designated spot in our Design Crafts/Art Studio class.

A variety of calming, mindful, therapeutic art projects and activities based on creativity and self-expression will be presented for the students to engage with.

Activities will include, but are not limited too, drawing, creating dreamcatchers, making friendship bracelets, painting, sculpturing, and coloring.

Using art as therapy approach will help our students express feelings, relieve stress, and build self-esteem and awareness. The calming area will also help instill vital life skills of self-motivation and regulation.
