Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I hope to create a classroom calming area where students can acknowledge their emotions and make use of strategies and soothing materials to calm themselves so learning can continue. This classroom space will be used to help students de-escalate when they are having a difficult time regulating their emotions.

Students will use and benefit from having a safe place in the classroom where they can take a moment to reflect, monitor and reflect on their emotions/feelings/actions.

In this safe corner inside the classroom students will have access to mental health posters, Coping Skills posters, a Big Joe Hug beanbag chair, an adjustable working table, warm light and Calming Sensory Relief Toys.The goal is for students to use this corner of resources as a place to process an experience they have had.

This will help build a community within the classroom to respect and honor emotions and feelings. This area will also serve as a great opportunity to check in and connect with students.
