This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students continue to cope with the affects of COVID-19. Some of them struggle with regulation of their emotions and self-control. These Calming Area resources will help students find a safe and comfortable place to take a moment and re-center themselves before resuming their classwork.
In this Calming Area students will have the opportunity to practice self-care and self-efficacy.
They will use photo cards and books to help them recognize and express their feelings. Likewise, they will utilize calming sensory items (e.g. colorful gel-bead shapes, textured balls, and liquid-filled windows.)
This will be a space where students can practice meditation and mindfulness. Specifically, students can journal, draw, and practice breathing exercises.
