My Project

Helping children develop their emotional intelligence is imperative for managing emotions, and improving academic, social and behavioral success, as well as growth over their lifetime! Children need to feel safe and supported in order be able to cope with big feelings and tough moments. There are many benefits of utilizing calming resources and spaces in the school environment, including students learning to self-regulate, keeping behavior issues from escalating, and reducing the amount of time students may be disengaged from learning.

The aim is for students have a safe and designated space to manage their emotions in the expected way.

Having a calm down corner will improve student self-management skills, increase self-awareness and promote personal responsibility of their emotions and behaviors and ultimately their learning. The school social worker's office needs to be equipped to best support students during times of dysregulation.
