Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Giving my students a user-friendly Calm Down Center allows students to take charge of their emotional well-being and make the choices that work best for them. During certain times of the day and depending who is having a bad day, the Calm Down Center will be there for them to better deal with whatever that life had thrown at them in a kinder and gentler and dare I say, a much more thoughtful take on school and their unique part in it. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice taking a quick visit to the Calm Down Center. They almost always make better choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they would have if they didn’t first take a visit to the Calm Down Center to better understand and deal with their emotions, outbursts, and the consequences of their actions.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given the choice of visiting the Calm Down Center first.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional self-regulating options to make more effective learning choices. The See My Feelings Mirror helps provide kids with Anger Management Toys, Anxiety Relief Items also help in the cause to help out kids who have had a life riddled with debilitating bouts of crippling anxiety. Luckily they will be also given the chance to benefit from sensory play and delving into the wide world of mindfulness.
