This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyone needs a place to decompress! I teach a low incidence class with 7-10 students. They have multiple disabilities and often need a place to decompress and gather their thoughts and to get sensory input. I was looking to create this space for them. They will often hide under desks or fight over the tunnel. I would love to give them a space! My students love playing having a place to call their own! Often they run to see who gets to the one tunnel the district gave me.

My Project

I have 7-10 low incidence students, who sometimes need a break from the hustle of the classroom. I would like to provide a nice calm corner they can retreat to. They love being able to escape and breath. Being able to offer them a place to call their own allows them time to center and come back to work once they have stabilized. Often times they need that break from academics and social settings. My dream is to offer them this place to relax. I know it will help them succeed academically and socially and learn how to self sooth and self calming techniques. I would like to get soft seats, a vibrating cushion and beanbag seats to go in our calm area.
