My Students

I teach in a multi-grade classroom (3rd - 5th) full of inquisitive and interesting 8 - 11-year-old boys and girls. All of our students receive free lunch and many of our families are living below the poverty line. Our students have a range of different needs, including one-on-one, adapted materials, extra support, and coping skills. Our students are in our Day Treatment setting due to not being successful in a regular education classroom.

Our students are funny, smart, and creative.

Our students thrive on hands-on projects, experiments, and of course, reinforcements.

Our kids come to us with very little and have very high needs. With all this, our attendance is high, and their eagerness to learn is infectious!

My Project

Having a calm body and calm mind is essential for social emotional learning. When our bodies and minds are on high alert, our reactions can become over-reactions.

Research continues to show that yoga and mindfulness decrease stress, attention deficit issues, depression and anxiety in children.

Physical health, psychological well-being, social relations, and academic performance benefits are also greatly influenced by yoga.

Through breath and awareness, yoga teaches students to step back and respond to stress in a calm, thoughtful manner. The benefits of yoga are numerous and these materials will help our students get into shape, physically, mentally and socially.
