My Students

My 8th-grade students range from 13 to 14 years of age, and many of my 125 students come from low-income households. However, unlike stereotypical, too-cool-for-school middle schoolers, my students are engaged, passionate learners who love to energetically participate in our learning. Our classroom is blessed with many diverse perspectives, creative thinkers, and compassionate learners.

What makes my students truly unique is that they understand the impact that they have on one another's education and rise to meet this challenge each and every day--both within and beyond the classroom.

My Project

I am blessed to have a relatively large classroom. We implement the Reader's and Writer's Workshop Model, which necessitates ample time and space for students to collaborate on, practice with, and share out big ideas. Although my students love spreading out and using every inch of our classroom, it becomes very difficult for us to share ideas and address questions quickly and effectively.

Having a durable, easy-to-use microphone readily available in our classroom will ensure​ that all voices, both large and small, can be heard.

If a student is confident, generous, and brave enough to share his or her ideas, their peers should be able to hear every word.
