Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful little learners! They live in a small community, and the majority of my students are from Spanish speaking homes. My students come from low-income families and various socioeconomic backgrounds, but despite these challenges, they come to school ready to learn. They all receive free breakfast and lunch to keep them going throughout the day.
My students are eager to try new things!
Once they enter my classroom, the smiles and conversations begin, and that gets me ready to teach and learn!
My Project
My classroom has several reading rotations throughout the day and a listening center is a must for beginning readers. They need to hear multiple fluent readings and the use of headphones will keep students engaged in a story from beginning to end. Reading to someone is a favorite choice and adding headphones and a headphone splitter to this will make it listening with someone. The headphone splitters will give reading partners time to listen to the same story and answer questions together. I know my students will love that idea! Since I have reading rotations every day, these headphones will be used very often.
Technology has given my students enjoyment in learning, and the addition of headphones supports their desire to learn more independently.
Not only will these materials improve their reading skills, they will also be used during math rotations to improve their math skills as they watch and listen to instructional videos. Listening to math instructions in videos or games is also helpful for struggling readers because they can focus on the math skills rather than the reading.
These resources will be used throughout the day, for different areas, which will give my students time to learn with a friend or on their own. We will need to create a space to store these materials, but I know my students will have great ideas!
