This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to learn. In our classroom community, the children are constantly asking questions and building upon what they know. They come from diverse backgrounds and speak English and/or Spanish. There are varying degrees of home support yet each student comes to school ready to be a part of our learning community. These second graders are hardworking, curious, and kind. They support one another in learning and building upon each other’s strengths. They love to read and be read to. I am so lucky to share my love of reading with them!

My Project

I love a good audiobook! For my students, listening to a recoding of a story while following along with a hard copy has many benefits. Some of these benefits include: providing a model of fluent reading, teaching listening skills, introducing new vocabulary, helping with decoding challenging words, and supporting literature exposure at higher reading levels. Books on tape are wonderful for English Language Learners’ language acquisition as they make connections between what they hear and see while listening. Our school library has a fantastic collection of books on tape, thank you for helping to complete our Listening Station with headphones!
