My Students

Our school embraces the individuality of our students. We want our kids to be comfortable in their own skin, and to see the greatness that lies in them. They are confident in knowing that, despite the challenges they face in life, they can set goals and strive for excellence.

Most of my students are from Camden, NJ, which is regularly ranked among the most impoverished areas in the country.

The realities of living in such an area pose an extra layer of challenge to their classroom learning.

As their teacher, I'm focused on getting my kids excited about math. I also want them to see how math applies to their own lives. My kids are capable of excelling in school; and, I'm committed to holding them accountable to their potential.

My Project

In math class, we often discuss how technology is an exciting part of the modern workplace. We talk about how math gives one access to working with computers, understanding sports, designing video games, and various other jobs that interest students. I want to give my students the best opportunity to achieve their goals in math and technology.

Calculators are a basic tool that allows students to grapple with higher-level math concepts.

Specifically, students work with percentages, large decimals, ratios, proportions, and other topics. Calculators help students get excited about math by engaging in activities to which they relate. For example, students used calculators on a project that explained sports statistics such as basketball field goal percentages and baseball batting averages. As students gain confidence with such projects, they begin to see their own abilities grow and, ultimately, that they can succeed in mathematics.
