Calculators, Markers and Books, Oh My!

Help me give my students new books for our library, a class set of calculators, and other materials that we use more often in a hybrid learning model during the world-wide pandemic.

My Students

The students who attend my middle and high school are from various backgrounds and come from all over the county. In particular, I am working mostly with 8th graders who receive extra services, both pushing into their general education classes and giving them support in smaller groups. I run a small reading group and a small math group, as well as help students with organizational strategies, social skills, and behavioral support. We have identified materials that will continue to help our classroom grow with our ever-changing needs in a world of remote learning.

I am looking to diversify classroom materials and procure supplemental materials in order to reach each student's individual needs in the remote learning environment.

Now that we have returned to the classroom in a hybrid setting, we have identified additional materials that would help us both when back in the physical classroom and while learning from home.

In a time when there is so much unknown, we want to make sure to provide our students with materials that will help them blossom into self-confident readers, artists, mathematicians, and scholars.

My Project

While learning in a hybrid model, my students and I have identified some materials that we are in greater need of this year. The big item is calculators! As our math content becomes more sophisticated, we have found the need for a class set of calculators. We've also recognized that we need to update our book shelf with biographies and other literature to learn about the under-represented groups throughout history.

We have also identified a few miscellaneous items that we have more use for while in this unique learning situation.

We want more dry erase markers so students can utilize the plexiglass dividers as another writing surface. We want dice so everyone can have their own when completing activities since we can't pass materials back and forth at this time. We need a USB extender so we can continue to use all the technology that is making hybrid learning possible. We also need tissues because, even pre-pandemic, it's a material we tend to go through super quickly!
