This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have fantastic students that love doing hands-on projects and are very curious and excited to learn new things. I find that my students learn the best when they are able to demonstrate the topic that I am teaching or experiment with different hypotheses to discover the answers. These types of projects stick with my kids the best.
My students typically come from low socio-economic backgrounds and I strive to make their education as interesting and productive as I can and to give them opportunities to spark their interests in the STEM fields.
My students are smart, capable, and up for the challenge of lab work, and I want to be able to provide them with that type of experience in their education.
My Project
I currently have five working calculators for my Chemistry students to use, and they are constantly having to share even during tests. Right now, we are working on thermochemistry and doing many calculations to determine changes in energy. Soon, we will be moving into Gas Laws, which is even more complicated math. I am requesting a class set of these calculators so that every student is able to use their own calculator during class. These calculators are great because they are easier and cheaper to use than some other calculators, and the students cannot use their phones in class.
