This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My chemistry students are discovering how math and science support each other and need the materials to help them. Many of my students come from a non-English speaking home and are on the free-reduced lunch program. When they get home, they are working to support their families or watching their younger siblings for their parents so they do not have time to finish the work from class.

Most of the calculators we have to work with have cracked screens, stuck keys, and broken battery covers.

These students deserve to have access to calculators that work consistently.

My Project

Every chemistry student needs a calculator to use while they are in their classroom in order to successfully complete labs and data analysis. The scientific calculators will be kept in the classroom at all times and used for labs, exams, and in-class work. The scientific calculator will allow students to focus on their work, rather than be distracted while using the calculator on their cell phone. It will make answering problems using scientific notation and mole calculations quicker.

The students are currently using their cell phones - if they have them -

because our current calculators have cracked screens, stuck buttons, and the batteries fall out because the battery storage is broken.
