Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The advanced-placement chemistry class at the High School for Telecommunication Arts and Technology is an academically rigorous class in an urban school whose major student population includes economically disadvantaged, inner-city minorities. Our class is working to achieve success as we are studying for the College Board's advanced placement chemistry test, which is a test offered in high school that gives students credit equivalent to the first year of college chemistry. Our class is learning chemistry through hands-on experiments and real-world problem solving. We are looking for scientific calculators that students can use to do the advanced calculations needed in our chemistry class. The calculators will make our study of advanced chemistry possible; without calculators, we are limited in what areas of chemistry that we can explore. Please take this opportunity to help us as we try and foster a sense of accomplishment among students seeking academic success in a demanding high school course. Most students will be the first generation in their family to attend college. Successfully completing this course makes them better prepared to succeed and complete college, because they will have earned college credit and confidence in high school.
