Help me give my students TI 30 XS Multiview Scientific Calculators. These calculators will help us maintain a class set of calculators that need to be updated.
My students are mostly sophomores and juniors, but occasionally, I have freshmen and seniors in the mix. This diverse group of students is hard-working, respectful, and encouraging to one another. My students crave social interaction, intellectual conversations, adult support, and respect. They are so appreciative for the time you pour into them, providing, "thank you"s, hand-shakes, and common courtesies throughout the day. These are the athletes, nerds, creative minds, musicians, readers, gamers, social justice seekers, care-takers, and workers of this generation. They inspire me every day.
My instructional strategies are unique within my department.
I teach with a 360 classroom where my students are engaged, collaborative, and receive more feedback about their thinking in real-time. Lessons are student-centered, not teacher-centered. I strive to create students who advocate for themselves, and who also excel at the mathematics they need after my course. Character, mathematical persistence, and excellence are things we strive to foster in my class.
My Project
As a technology tool, this project will help all my students have equal access to technology. They will breeze through cumbersome notation so that they may focus their mental energy on learning the conceptual meaning behind our learning goals.
These calculators allow me to teach them multiple representations of functions through tables and equations while also being the perfect tool for simplifying radicals and fractions (which is a consistent struggle for many.)
All students have more mathematical confidence with a calculator in their hands. This is sometimes the best first step to help someone not be afraid of learning.
