My students will use scientific calculators to investigate function properties, tabulate data, discover the properties of logarithms for the first time, and properly simplify expressions. The TI 30XS model helps students to see and enter fractions and radical expressions in a clear manner, and switch between fraction, radical, and decimal notation flawlessly. As a technology tool, this project will help all my students have equal access to technology. With this tool, I hope they will be able to breeze through cumbersome notation so that they may focus their mental energy on learning the conceptual meaning behind our learning goals. All students have more mathematical confidence with a calculator in their hand. This is sometimes the best first step to help someone not be afraid of learning.
