Cake Decorating

Help me give my students a better opportunity to learn more skills and be successful in baking. This includes a mixer and cake decorating supplies.

My Students

I teach Family and Consumer Sciences, which entails 3 different levels of cooking, 3 different levels of sewing, child development, interior design, and consumer education.

My students do a great deal of hands-on projects that are real life applicable.

We tend to go through a large amount of consumables which can be costly.

We are consistently trying new activities that would benefit our community. For example, my interior design students have created various pieces to help our school look more presentable. Also, my 8th grade foods class are wanting to make take home dinners for community members.

I am only allocated a specific amount of money for my budget each school year. With the prices of goods increasing and the decreased funding for schools, this has caused doing these meaningful activities more difficult.

I want to make sure my students have access to as many resources as possible so they have a stronger foundation to be successful adults in the future.

This year we have started a Multicultural Achievement Committee Scholars program. I am the sponsor of the program. I have essentially no resources for the program. I would like to have more diverse literature, cookbooks, and opportunities.

My Project

We have a cake decorating contest between each 8th grade class. We are also participating in a cupcake war between each middle school.

It takes a great deal of skill for each project so we need the appropriate materials.

We are able to learn how to appropriately decorate the cakes and cupcakes. This could spark an interest in going in to baking as a career. I hope that my students are able to take the skills they learn in my class and apply them in the future. My class is great to learn essential skills.
