My Students

A typical day in my classroom involves three different grade levels: third, fourth, and fifth grades. My job is to provide gifted and talented students with advanced curriculum and higher level instruction. With the right materials in these students' hands, the sky's the limit!

Don't let the term "gifted and talented" fool you.

There are no privileges here. We are typically the last to get funding and materials. Our classroom currently has 1 desktop computer that is barely operable (5 minute boot-up when instructional time is so precious), but I want to teach computer coding, web design, and research skills. We want to use computer software from MIT to build and test bridges. When we study Frank Lloyd Wright, I want to teach the students how to use a design software to create their own home. The options are limitless! What to do? Beg generous donors!

My Project

My goal is to provide these students with a wealth of knowledge and learning opportunities. My students need a Chromebook for opportunities to participate in digital learning. Technology opens up a whole new world! A great deal of our focus is on research skills and learning how and where to access valid and reputable information. We also want to learn how to build computer codes and use design software to create floor plans and bridge designs. Let's not forget Khan Academy and the differentiated instructional strategies that can be implemented with the proper tools. Plus, it just makes learning more exciting!

Many of my students have no computers at home at all.

In this digital age, these students will be at an incredible disadvantage if they are not proficient in the world of technology. We are teaching the future leaders. I want to prepare them, excite them, and teach them to the best of my ability.
