My students are a young bunch of eager learners.

They are fascinated with the natural world that surrounds them. In our class, STEM education rules! Want to hatch baby chicks? Sure! How about plant and harvest a vegetable garden? No problem! The natural curiosity that this age group possesses is an absolute treasure. The love that each child has for the outdoors and nature is only surpassed by the love they have for each other. Our class is a school family and where one child succeeds, they all do. Each child comes into the classroom already equipped to learn new experiences. The learning that takes place in our classroom goes beyond textbooks and worksheets and focuses on meaningful, engaging, and powerful experiences that stay with each child throughout their educational career!

My Project

I am asking for butterfly eggs and caterpillar food for my students. My class has yet to experience the beauty of the Painted Lady butterfly life cycle. Showing a video or reading a story regarding metamorphosis is not the same as actually watching the process unfold before your very eyes. From egg, to caterpillar, then chrysalis, to butterfly I want my students to witness it all in our classroom! My students will record and observe our specimens throughout their life cycle. My students will also be responsible feeding and caring for the caterpillars, and then later, butterflies. Once all the butterflies have emerged from their chrysalises my students will release them into our community butterfly garden!
