Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My learners are adventurous and compassionate people who are getting their chance at life. I serve ELL's that face challenges like learning a new language and adapting to a different culture. They come to PK scared and crying because they don't know what to expect.
I teach in a poverty stricken community in the outskirts of the big city where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My learners are not defined by their circumstances but by the love that flows through their hearts and the eagerness that embodies their every action. I want to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Despite the challenges, I take pride in welcoming my learners into an environment that provides social-emotional support and that is conducive to their learning.
In my classroom my learners have dreams of becoming doctors, teachers, scientist and poets. I want to continue to motivate all of my learners to excel and be contributing members of society because the future of tomorrow is sitting in my classroom today.
My Project
My learners need a microscope and prepared slides to get up close and personal with bugs! I want my learners to gain respect for bugs and not fear them. These materials will help my learners become familiar with insects and understand the role they play in our environment. My learners will then be able to describe differences in their journals and discuss among friends their observations.
"Leave the bugs alone" is what I constantly find myself saying - This project will help me teach my learners about bugs and the jobs they do in our environment. My learners will learn that even bugs have a job to do!
The insect manipulatives will give my learners another perspective of bugs as they will actually be able to hold these in their hands. The Life Sequencing Kit will help my learners use sequencing vocabulary while describing the life cycle. The books will be incorporated into lessons that will help my eager little ones understand the important of bugs in our world. The backyard exploration kit and butterfly habitat will let us observe live insects and observe the way they work and transform.
Donors, with your help my learners will acquire valuable skills that will help them learn and care for the environment that surrounds them for many years to come.
