My Students

My kindergarten students come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds with 49% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

Although some of my students have attended a preschool or Head Start setting, for most, kindergarten is their first formal learning experience. A percentage of my students have learning disabilities such as ADD and ADHD. Some have experienced homelessness and or have family and traumatic situations that cause academic and emotional problems.

Regardless of their economic, family, cultural, educational backgrounds, my students have an innate curiosity about the living world. They love activities, such as engineering, tinkering, mathematics, and science where they can question, explore, test, and observe.

My kindergarten students are beginning to explore why things do what they do. They have questions and are eager to explore and discover the world around them. What better way to do this than through robotics and programming!

My Project

I am committed to developing STEM skills among my students, who are natural-born scientists and engineers, and to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. To achieve this, I need robotic materials to engage students in hands-on discovery activities.

The donations to this project will offer many opportunities for my students to use their minds and hands to play, explore, and learn.

Preparing my young students with the 21st-century skills that they will need to succeed is crucial in education and one of my most important responsibilities. With the use of STEM materials, my students will be provided the opportunity to reinforce skills we are studying and to make learning FUN and interactive.

Research shows that giving children exposure to quality, hands-on STEM learning opportunities is so important and familiarity with STEM concepts early on is a key predictor of children’s school success.
