My Project

My name is Kiel Schweizer and I am the director for Thunderbird Ukulele at a Title 1 high school in Anchorage, Alaska. This group of talented students performs fun ukulele arrangements of pop songs with a variety of different types of ukuleles.

One of the key instruments is something we call a Baritone Bass Ukulele.

This ukulele plays like a bass guitar, but the strings are an octave higher. The electronics on the instruments we are using now were of low quality and I've tried to upgrade them, but they still give us so many problems during performances and we can't put off getting them replaced any longer. My plan is to buy two Kala UBASS-EM-FS instruments and have a local luthier convert them to Baritone Bass Ukuleles.

We were fortunate to receive a grant from the Anchorage Community Foundation to purchase and modify 1 instrument, but there are two kids who play them in the ukulele ensemble and we really need those instruments to match. So, I'm turning to you, people of DonorsChoose.

Please consider helping us get a quality instrument so these kids can continue developing their talents as we travel around performing shows and sharing our love of the ukulele.
