This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school in a low-income area. The majority of my students are from homes that earn below the poverty level. I try to provide them with as much as I can at school because not all of them are able to have access to materials at home.
All of my students are special needs with varying disabilities from developmental delays, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other health impairments.
This year we have some really sweet students coming to our class with some really smart little kiddos! Our class make-up is also a lot younger than we have had previously.
My Project
Having an opportunity to observe and learn about the life cycle of a butterfly is such a fun and memorable experience. Having the chance to see butterflies up close and watch them transition from a caterpillar to a butterfly is so exciting.
Being able to give my students an opportunity to have exposure to something that they would not normally interact with and the building excitement of waiting for the butterflies to come out of the chrysalis is such an amazing experience for these kids.
An opportunity for us to learn about butterflies will be such a great experience to build a love for science for years to come!
