Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have grown up in an inner city. Many of these children face poverty, violence, and obscenities of life on a daily basis that are well beyond what most of us could not imagine. They are always looking to learn new things and explore different subjects more in-depth. They come to school hungry for knowledge trying to do their best to learn as I try to do my best to give them a good education and an introduction to the American way of life.
My school has limited resources so having these books will keep my students' minds moving and active, but giving them resources to experiment with and simple experiments to do in the classroom or at home gives them motivation to explore.
This will be able to keep students engaged in reading at all levels and topics.
My students need more books about butterflies and their habitats that affect their environment. Science is important to my students, we want to watch the life cycle of the butterfly up close. We practice science through reading, but they love doing science experiments and watching things grow and change, so live caterpillars to release into our garden would be wonderful, we are already seeing last year's butterflies. Students are so limited by the world around them that we need to extend it miles through reading and experimenting.
The best thing is that my students really love butterflies so watching the butterflies transform from a chrysalis would be amazing. My students need to continue being challenged, to increase their reading stamina but most of all as they increase their stamina, they will continue reaching for higher-level books so let's continue to push our future scientists.
