This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our 5th graders have been learning all about Monarch butterflies and their migration through the Big Bend of Florida. The students have learned about all the factors that allow the Monarch to survive through their life cycle.

Their end of the year community action project was to build a pollinator garden to help Monarch butterflies have a stopping place to eat, sleep, and reproduce.

The end goal is to be able to continue upkeeping and planting Florida native plants for future students to learn from. Making it the ultimate hands on experience!

We are a small, tight knit, school community located on the outskirts of a capital city. Our school has been around for over 150 years in the same spot. This combination provides a strong sense of community where teachers know all of the children and families.

Recently our community was in the direct path of a tornado. Which left a ton of damage to our school and community. We are currently picking up from this and are looking forward to replant our garden and have an amazing space that our students can learn in.

These supplies, including gloves, shovels, and other tools will be a huge boost as we continue to grow our garden over the next few years.
