I teach art to a wonderful group of students in Pre-K-grade 5 and 2 autism cluster classes. When my students see me in the hallway, they stop me and want to know what the next art project is. I have made it my mission to bring the best art supplies, technology and art enrichment to my students.
We are a Title I school, because 90% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
We strive to help meet the needs of every student. We have academic clubs, after-school tutoring, and daily academic pull-out programs. Our students also have an after school sports club with the local police to build teamwork and positive experiences in the community. These additional programs have helped our students, and they have done well on standardized tests.
We have a well-rounded specials program with music, art, P.E. and media.
September 21st is a special day where millions of children around the world celebrate peace. This special day is called "Pinwheels for Peace." Using our Butterfly Garden, I want my children to come up with a presentation of dances, songs, poetry, movement and more to demonstrate ways to shows acts of "peace and kindness" on this day. Some songs I would like them to perform are: Somewhere over the Rainbow - Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole, Butterfly Fly Away - Hannah Montana song writers- Glen Ballard, Alan Silvestri and Live aid - 1985 USA For Africa - We Are The World. We must focus on "Peace" and being "kind" in daily activities through our home, school and community.
I have requested 2 Butterfly Chairs which will be painted by my students to add color and used as props in our performance and a Boy and Girl Reading Together Statue to help with another visual display during the performance since students will read poetry about the character traits of peace and kindness.
My students will also plant colorful pinwheels with messages of "peace and kindness" to add beauty to this artistic installation in the garden. The colorful painted Butterfly Chairs and beautiful statue will also be part of a permanent display and will serve as a visual reminder through the arts that students should model and practice the various character traits of "peace, kindness" and more.
I hope you consider helping this amazing visual presenation to help send a message of peace, kindness and more through the visual arts through a performance and more on Septemeber 21st.
