This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At KCA we strive to provide our students with experiential learning and outdoor experiences that enrich their lives. The garden and Certified Natural Wildlife Habitat have grown each year and is now a highlight of our school, building community and providing endless opportunities to commune with nature

In today's age of cell phones, gaming and social media, our kids need a connection to the outdoors more than ever.

Our inner city, special needs students benefit from connecting to the environment and finding purpose and joy in being in nature. Studies have shown that being outdoors can improve your mood, reduce stress and increase physical activity. These are all things our students need. In addition, teaching stewardship of our planet, is more important than ever. Helping them gain a respect for even the smallest insect and encouraging them to look around (instead of down) and see the various species we have invited in to our habitat, is a therapy of its own kind.
