Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a first grade bilingual self-contained special education class. My students are six and seven and full of energy. Everyday is an adventure for them because they’re learning new things about the world. They love coming to school and they are learning to overcome challenges they face as they are getting older. They are resilient and full of questions. They make choices now that determine their attitude towards life. My students are the best and I’m so proud of the people they are growing up to be.

My Project

My students have a big desire to learn, but sometimes their bodies feel like electricity is running through them and they need ways to keep their hands busy. These items will be used throughout small and large group instruction. It will help their brains focus and their bodies’ sensory needs fulfilled. Sometimes my students get into mischief because they’re touching someone else or are distracted with little things they find around them. It’s not fair to them because they really try. The timers and fidgets would also help them take breaks. When they have sensory overload, sometimes they need 5-10 minutes to gather themselves. The visual timer would let them know when they can come back. I’m so excited and so thankful ahead of time for your help and generosity.
