I teach two classes of incredibly wonderful, smart, curious, and caring Kindergartners who love to learn. Each day, these 5 and 6-year-old children walk through my door full of smiles, hugs, and a desire to learn in our classroom community. They are becoming amazing readers, writers, and mathematicians. Each day we work together to set the educational tone and groundwork for the years of school ahead of them.
When my Kindergarteners enter my classroom, they begin to understand that through learning they have the power to change the world and accomplish great things with their ideas and dreams.
Our class is a safe place to explore, create, and discover the magic of learning. My goal as a Kindergarten teacher is to create a space where children can feel successful as they focus on their personal growth and progress. We celebrate each child's accomplishments both great and small. We cheer each other on as we reach shared classroom goals and individual goals.
My Project
Kindergarten children are naturally curious and are eager to learn through shared school experiences in both academics and play. Having the right tools available creates intentional teaching and learning.
During the pandemic, we have increased our teaching through technology.
Children have become adept at logging onto computers and participating in online learning, both in the classroom and at home as needed. Teachers have spent more money on digital resources like teachers pay teachers to provide students with digital learning activities to support learning with online tools. Additionally, we ask parents to donate headphones for each child's device and provide headphones for those children whose parents cannot afford to do so.
In the classroom, we set goals for children to master foundational skills and provide incentives as each child passes off the critical skills needed to prepare him/her for first-grade readiness. Children are easily motivated by small prizes and incentives for their efforts. As children work to be independent in the classroom, we offer activities during center time to support their literacy, math, and science skills through a variety of manipulatives and toys that support learning through discovery and play.
Having all of the tools such as a classroom learning cart helps to keep our classroom organized and promotes independence as children learn how to put things in their proper place.
