Ms. Roberts from Indianapolis IN is requesting sports & exercise equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need tricycles to use at recess to develop their gross motor skills!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students come to school with smiles ready to learn and start each new day. This is the third year for preschool at our school. I use rotations so that my students can develop fine motor skills and learn daily.
My classroom is slowly taking shape with fun-filled centers, and exciting manipulative's.
I teach at a Title 1 school and all of my 95% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students have siblings that they arrive to school with daily. The families in my school have very little extras with the help of DonorsChoose I will be able to add fun and exciting activities to my curriculum.
The four tricycles I am requesting will be extremely beneficial for my students to have the opportunity to learn how to ride on a trike. The tricycles already have a "home." They will be stored in a large equipment room in our school gym. The children will rotate on the tricycles so that each child learns the importance of self-control and waiting their turn. For most of my students this will be the first time they will get to ride a tricycle. Children will receive directions on the proper safety when driving around their peers.
Riding a tricycle helps develop gross motor skills that are needed for almost everything, it seems.
Gross motor skills refer to the large muscles groups of the body that enable running, walking, balance, coordination and more. Children develop these skills during early childhood and they improve as children get older.
It turns out that steering a tricycle teaches children their rights and lefts, and that there are different consequences to going in each direction. This also helps them grasp the concept that their body has sides (left, right, front, back) and aids their brain in distinguishing between these sides, like right hand versus left hand.
Tricycles are a great resource for my preschoolers to use for years to come.
