Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Science to K-5th grade students. Many of whom come from low-income families, refugee status, and who are English Language Learners. These students are cared about tremendously by our incredible staff. They each have unique talents and strengths and they get the opportunity to share them with their classmates.

Our school is filled with students from diverse cultures and backgrounds, yet they all come together to build this unique learning community.

As a teacher to these youth, my goal is to inspire them to adventure and discover and desire to learn so that they would have the confidence to see the bright futures ahead of them.

Many of my students believe that they are smart, they do not know enough English, or that they are not good enough. A.A. Milne said, "You are braver than you think, you are stronger than you seem and smarter than you think." May we each inspire that spirit in each student through empowering them in our classrooms.

My Project

My little scientists are really too little for the chairs in my classroom. Kindergarteners through 5th grade use my room and share the same materials. Because of this, there are adult sized chairs in my room even for the littles. Their legs often stick straight out causing them to kick their table mates by accident.

These fidget bands will be useful for bridging the gap in size between my students and give an outlet for my more mobile students to get out their fidgets so that they can focus more readily on becoming a scientist.

In addition to these fidget bands, there are a few other tools included such as dry erase markers and erasers, and some cardstock, and a wireless doorbell that we can use for our everyday learning. The wireless doorbell will be a great attention getter and fun twist for the kids. May we help empower the future scientists of this world.
