Do you remember sitting on your classroom rug to listen to a story being read by your teacher?
I teach a wonderful group of 3rd grade students.
They are a diverse group of learners ranging from advanced proficient to below proficient. These students attend a Title I school in East New York. 99% of our students receive free lunch. They amaze me every day with their pure love of learning! They work well together, they get excited about the things we are doing in class, and they LOVE to read. Yes, it is pretty much a dream come true for a teacher. :)
My Project
I would love to have a colorful rug for them to sit on that would not only provide them with a warm place to sit, but also provide them with an educational experience. Third graders are so curious about the world. I thought if I could get a rug with a map of the world on it, they would be so excited to learn more about the different places they "sit on".
My students already have a love of maps and are eager to learn about the world. The possibilities for teaching geography and developing language using such a map are endless. History, reading, science and math can easily be incorporated into lessons using this resource.
Please help us get a rug for our classroom.
I have also requested a vacuum so that we can enjoy our time on the rug without being afraid of the germs on it. We will love listening to stories on our new rug!
