My Students

I have the best students in the world! My school is located in a high-need community. Most of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have students from all different countries. My wonderful students come to school with a smile on their faces, ready to learn.

Although they struggle with extreme home situations, they often want someone to guide them into learning.

I enjoy coming to work each day and seeing their smiling faces. Some students' home lives are a bit more chaotic, which leads to a high transient rate. Almost 50% of my students have a learning disability. Despite the many obstacles that surround them, they love to learn. Quite a few of my students come from unstable homes, so the classroom needs to be the one constant in their life. They need to feel safe and provided for. They are sweet children that want to have fun and learn in a peaceful, fun classroom. I want to make that available to them!

My Project

Academic learning can be hard to stay focused on, but when I use Flocabulary, students listen! Flocabulary, an online platform, uses Hip Hop educational videos to help students enjoy playing and remembering from their academic lessons. Flocabulary videos lessons can be synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences. With this school year being virtual so far, Flocabulary will help with student participation and engagement. My students can join easily anytime from anywhere using their computers or phones.

Using Flocabulary with my 3rd graders this virtual school year will aid and enrich all my academic teaching by adding a fun and engaging way to learn and remember lessons.

Flocabulary is a digital resource that is full of interactive videos that hit all target subject areas. It is a fun, multi-sensory component to add to a lesson. Flocabulary teaches each topic using rhythm and rhyme to enhance their vocabulary development. The songs are catchy and the videos have engaging graphics to help students better understand key academic concepts. Teachers at 20,000 schools use Flocabulary’s standards-based videos, instructional activities and student creativity tools to supplement instruction and develop core literacy skills" (Flocabulary). Flocabulary is a great program that keeps students engaged and helps them learn and remember academic content.
