Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the best students in the world! My school is located in a high-need community. Most of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have students from all different countries. My wonderful students come to school with a smile on their faces, ready to learn.

Although they struggle with extreme home situations, they often want someone to guide them into learning.

I enjoy coming to work each day and seeing their smiling faces. Some students' home lives are a bit more chaotic, which leads to a high transient rate. Quite a few of my students come from unstable homes, so the classroom needs to be the one constant in their life. They need to feel safe and provided for. Despite the many obstacles that surround them, they love to learn!

My Project

I am requesting LEGOs, K'NEX, and building materials to build my students' STEM knowledge . These materials will be used in the STEM club I hope to create. It is my goal that in this STEM club kids can use their imagination and creativity while at the same time learning. They will be working together with a partner or small group to encourage collaboration and cooperation. The items that I have chosen will give my students the opportunity to develop problem solving skills that will be transferable across all subjects and in real-life situations.

Elementary school kids need time to play, to build, create, construct, cooperate, engage, and be persistent.

In our rapidly changing, technological society all kids need exposure to games and activities that will promote elastic, non-linear thinking and problem solving skills. Set with specific challenges, my students will be able to rotate through this variety of STEM activities and expand their thinking on a daily basis.
