My Project

Transitional and life skills are skills needed for students with special needs in order to gain employment and live a more productive life post-graduation. This project will help students gain experience in a school run coffee shop, while working on their individual education plan goal and objectives in the area of transition skills. Each week students help find the recipe for the dessert we feature, make it, and then package it for sale. Students will then serve the coffee to teachers by taking and fulfilling orders.

The life skills we practice with our Coffee Shop include following a recipe, sequencing steps in an activity, fulfilling an order, appropriate social skills, sharing, peer-peer work, basic number recognition, reading and comprehension, and health and hygiene protocol, which are invaluable to these learners.

The materials we are requesting are to help replace our supplies for baking projects and stock up on cups and labels. We also need to restock on coffee syrup, as this is a favorite menu item at our shop. The students feel amazing when the teacher compliments their hard work. All profits made from this project will go back to purchasing the supplies for the food products needed for the next week. A simple cup of coffee has brought our community closer together.
