I work with amazing second-graders in a small town located on a Native American reservation. Most of my students come from generational poverty, which can bring trauma. Every year, I do my best to create a classroom family where each child feels safe, successful, and loved. Local families are generously supporting the school with basic supplies. Unfortunately, there is a gap between what will help our children learn and our budgets.
The children in my class are sponges and love using technology to learn.
They also need hands-on activities that engage them.
That is why I do my best to find meaningful lessons and materials that will help them grow personally and academically. In a typical second-grade classroom, student abilities range from preschool levels to as high as 5th-grade levels and lessons are no longer one size fits all.
My Project
My students have been learning remotely since last March. I have challenged myself weekly to learn at least one new way to use technology to improve my instruction/student learning. We have limited access to our school at this time, as community case numbers are very high. I travel to the school one day a week for about 2 hours at a time and I have missed having access to our office copy and scanning machines. If I need to save a parent email and print it, if I want to make new vocabulary cards, or if I want to make an electronic version of a anchor charts for my online classroom, I need to wait till I am at my school to do so.
I have often found myself settling for a lesser version of instruction because I do not have access to all the tools available to me at school.
Please provide my online classroom with a printer/scanner that will be used during virtual instruction and later used for in person learning. My current class will benefit greatly from your donation along with hundreds of students in classes yet to come.
