Bunny Cage Building and More!

My students need supplies to design and build a bunny cage for Luna, our class pet, and stools, bean bags, and floor mats to make our classroom better reflect them and meet their diverse needs.

My Students

My students are AMAZING! They are in a unique program where 50% of their classes are in Spanish, they are bussed here instead of to their home schools to participate in the program which they have been in since kindergarten. These kids are cream of the crop. They are clever, fun, spunky, and hardworking.

I envision truly great things coming from these kids; they are our future.

Being in a bilingual program where half the students are from Spanish-speaking families and half English-speaking families students are often put in situations where they discuss issues on diversity, equity, culture, community, and values. All my students are Language Learners and 70% Economically Disadvantaged.

My Project

As a special project, my students use wire squares for shelving, zip ties, pet mat flooring, and other supplies I already have to design and build a cage for Luna, our Flemish Giant classroom rabbit. I teach both 6th and 7th grade students and will ask them to use their understanding of perimeter, area, scale factor, ratios, and creative design in this project. Luna is a special part of the classroom and is loved by both students and teachers.

This year is all about making learning in math class RELEVANT and RELAXED.

I hope this project will show students how they can use math in their lives.

The other items (4 bar stools, 2 beanbag covers, and foam mat) are to give students more options for work space in our 21st century classroom. When they walk in my room, I want them to feel how much they are loved and to know that learning in this classroom is centered around them.
