This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is known as "The Little School with a Heart" because teachers and parents work together striving to meet the needs of our diverse learners. We are a Title I school with 53% of our students being English language learners and 22% of our learners having disabilities. I work with at-risk students who require additional support to improve their literacy skills. They work hard every day and are eager to learn.

Many of my students have language-based disabilities and are English language learners that require multi-sensory strategies to facilitate the learning process.

It is beneficial to utilize as many interactive hands-on tools to learn and reinforce the necessary literacy skills to reach their individualized goals.

My Project

Bumpy books provide an easy to use, tactile and visual for students to learn correct letter formation and its sound. Students trace the tactile letters in the Bumpy books to learn sound/symbol associations by saying the sound will the trace the bumpy letters. The tactile letters will help students connect the letter with its sound and it helps students retain the letter sound correspondence.

Mastery of letters and corresponding sound is crucial to help my students learn to use sounds to blend sounds into words.

My students will benefit from using Bumpy books as part of our Orton - Gillingham based lessons.
