My Project

I am requesting 10 packs of Sharpie markers and 1 case of tags to complete an art project focused on bullying prevention and positive character development. On February 12th Sherman is hosting our 4th Annual Anti-Bullying student conference (SOARS: Support Others Act Responsibly & Safely). On this day we suspend all typical classes and ask community leaders to come for the day and teach workshops related to bullying prevention, the importance of supporting others as allies, positive character development. These specific materials will make it possible for students to complete an art project as part of the conference. In this workshop, students will look at Wishing Trees in the country and culture of Japan. Then they will create their own talisman through writing and visual arts as an object of good offerings or a commitment for themselves to continue to show respect, kindness, care for others. Their talisman will go on display at Sherman.

By including this art project in our bullying prevention event, students will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of respect within a community, through a creative and culturally responsive lens.

Their artwork will be a permanent display of student and staff commitment to maintaining and safe and bully free environment for everyone at Sherman Middle School.
