Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Bullying in kindergarten is fortunately not as prevalent as it can be in other grades. Kindergarten is, however, the ideal place to lay the foundation for being strong academically as well as socially.
My students are a great Kindergarten class.
They are eager to learn and they come to school everyday filled with the anticipation of what the day may hold. They are learning the ins and outs of life at school. They are learning how to be part of a larger social group. They make mistakes, forget to take turns, and sometimes do impulsive things that hurt other children's feelings. On the other hand, they can be very caring towards each other, share most of the time, and interact well in our little community. They are four and they have a lot to learn about social interactions.
My Project
Teaching the children at an early age about bullying can make a life long impression. Children frequently do not understand how deeply they can hurt one another by their words and actions. By addressing the topic of bullying when it first begins can help to build a strong foundation of prevention for the children as they grow older. I am requesting the Bullying in Schools book to help build my own vocabulary for discussing this topic with my students. I've requested the TAG reader materials and the Kindle Fire to build my students academic skills which will in turn build up their self-esteem. When children are confident in their academic work, they are less likely to bully other children. The Tag Reader books can be used by an an individual child or as partners to read together. The Kindle Fire will be used in all content areas to build up reading, math, and hand eye coordination skills. The Kindle can be used by one or two children at a time.
Bullying is becoming more and more prevalent in our schools.
In order to help combat bullying we need to give our children tools that they can use throughout their lives to help protect themselves from the cruelty of others. In kindergarten we can do a lot to teach the children how to care for each other, how to make amends if one makes a mistake, and how to try and make the right choice the first time.
