My students come to school from the immediate neighborhood.
They come from low income families, with most of them having only one parent struggling to hold the family together or from families that don't speak English.
They suffer from low academics and many suffer from ADHD and other learning disabilities, including Autism. They come to learn, but some days it is a struggle to keep them on task. I have to make sure that we are always on the move and we have a lot of hands-on activities and movements planned for the day. Gentle reminders throughout the day for them to stay on task is a must.
My Project
The giant alphabet beads and the snap together letters will help students with building words and identifying sight words. The sight word sandwiches will allow the students to identify and match sight words and the magnetic sight word sentence board and flip and write sight word sentences will allow the students to practice building sentences with sight words.
All of these items will help students grow academically through hands-on learning.
These will build their confidence with building words which will also impact their ability to read. My students want to be successful in every thing they do. Through hands-on learning they will grasp the concepts that are needed for reaching that success when it comes to academics. These materials will be used everyday throughout the school year.
