Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The goal of my project is to have my Boy Scout Troop create videos of themselves reading the requested texts in order to create a google classroom library of read aloud stories for my inner city students. As a reading specialist, I service many students with dyslexia and learning disabilities. In addition, I work in an inner city school where English is the second language for 85% of the students.
My Scout Troop will create a google classroom of read aloud stories that would be broken into grade levels, and then be set up like a library for families and students to access and have stories read to the children on demand from the comfort of their home, phone or shelter.
The children and families will get the opportunity to listen to the stories together, learn new vocabulary from the text and be challenged to use the new words in their oral vocabulary. This will also benefit our students with learning disabilities to develop their oral language which will later support their ability to decode the more challenging words and provide them with background knowledge in multiple areas.
Our ultimate goal is to develop language, encourage reading and create curiosity among our students and families. Please support our goal.
